Xbox Series X & PS5 Consoles - Are they Worth the Upgrade for the Average Gamer?

The new console generation for Xbox and Playstation are a month away from being released but will they be worth purchasing for the average gamer if they already own the previous gen versions? First you need to understand the enhancements that this next gen of consoles are bringing which for most gamers may be some of the most immersive gaming experiences any console gamer has ever seen.

Xbox Series X

The Xbox Series X is a beast of a console with 12 Teraflops of processing power which doubles the power of the Xbox One X. The Series X also has the capability of delivering 120 frames per second for the smoothest gameplay available of any current console which they advertise as “True to Life 4K”. The sleek design of the Series X is also built for performance. Microsoft explains the reasoning for their design as, “The Xbox Parallel Cooling Architecture is built with three air flow channels that evenly distribute the temperatures generated by the advanced internal components, keeping the console cool and quiet”. This allows the console to run at its highest performance settings over long extended periods of gaming. The Xbox Series X will not only out perform every current Xbox console when it comes to overall gameplay but it will look crystal clear on 4K televisions and gaming monitors due to AMD's Zen 2 and RDNA 2 architectures. Microsoft also explains that “the DirectX ray tracing delivers true-to-life lighting, shadows, and accurate reflections to create dynamic, living worlds”. All this power and a sleek design to create an immersive gaming experience…but is it worth the upgrade when it releases? Well for most casual gamers we would recommend to wait and see if your favorite games will be cross gen which you will be able to play on your Xbox One X so there really isn’t a need to upgrade right away. That being said, for those more experienced gamers that want to immersive themselves into an enhanced console gaming world than absolutely get the upgrade.

The PS5 is also a beast of a console with 10.3 Teraflops which is a huge upgrade from the PS4 Pro that puts out only 4.2 Teraflops. This means you will be able maximize your gaming sessions due to faster load times but also allows gaming developers to create gaming experiences never accomplished on any Playstation before. The PS5 also has ray tracing that creates realistic lighting and shadows which is possible due to the RDNA 2 GPU. This console will be compatible with 4K televisions and even supports 8K output to allow gamers to play on their 4320p resolution monitor displays. One of the key highlights of the PS5 in our opinion is the controller design of course. The DualSense Wireless controller creates the ultimate immersive experience when playing through the story of your favorite games by providing adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, a sleek ergonomic design, and built-in speakers. The PS5 is a complete level up from its predecessors...but is it worth it buying on release? Well just as the Xbox Series X we think it would be smart for the casual gamer to wait and see which games are coming out for it that might be cross gen compatible. But for those more experienced gamers we think you should absolutely level up your gaming experience with the PS5!

In conclusion...we think upgrading to the new consoles just depends on what kind of gamer you are. It also depends on which games will be coming out at release and if you are interested in playing them right away especially since some of them will be cross gen. We suggest you do your research on which games you think you would be interested in the most. Do you spend hours upon hours spending as much free time gaming as you can and want to experience the most immersive gaming entertainment systems ever created thus far? Then absolutely invest into these amazing consoles.
